New Scout Commissioner for Cornwall

20 June 2018

Cornwall Scouts have appointed a new county commissioner, Neil Slade a Cornish businessman with a passion for people.

With over 5,000 members across the Duchy it’s going to be a busy and exciting time for Neil who will lead the amazing team of adult volunteer teams who deliver inspiring programmes and provide skills for life to the young people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Professionally, Neil is known to many throughout Cornwall for his lengthy career in the field of Hospitality and Tourism. He manages the Penmorvah Manor Hotel in Falmouth. His personal Scouting journey spans nearly 30 years, having started his Scouting adventure at the age of 12 when he first joined the 2nd Falmouth (All Saints) Scout Group.

Neil said “Cornwall is a fantastic place in which to Scout. I’m really looking forward to developing the support that the county provides to its brilliant volunteer teams”

“As Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life. We encourage our young people to do more, share more and be more”.

Cornwall Scouts provide fun, adventure and development to young people from 6 – 25, across seven Scout Districts covering the Moors to the shores.

Neil said “Each week, we give nearly 4000 young people the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed. We’re talking about teamwork, leadership and resilience – skills that have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians”.

“We believe in bringing people together. We believe in celebrating diversity and standing against intolerance, always. We’re part of a worldwide movement, creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures”.
