Big Lottery Fund launches £10m “Millennium Now” programme in collaboration with Channel 4

The Big Lottery Fund is inviting organisations to apply for a share of £10m that will be spent on five projects over a two-year period.

The Millennium Now funding programme will provide between £1.5m and £2m funding for schemes aimed at tackling five social problems. A public poll, carried out by Ipsos Mori and Channel 4, was carried out to help in the selection.

Channel 4 will film the progress made by each project for a television series that will be screened in late 2012. “Organisations that are thinking of applying will need to show willingness to be filmed throughout the development of their project as this is a key requirement of the programme,” a statement from the Big Lottery Fund said.

The funding will support one programme in each of the five problem areas:
- Helping disadvantaged families to live healthy lives
- Helping different generations share their skills
- Encouraging communities to volunteer to address environmental issues
- Bringing communities together to tackle local issues
- Helping disadvantaged young people to learn new career-based skills
